DRAGONFLY MOON -
Supporting World Fair-Trade
OUR VARIED WORLD DRUMS ARE FAIRLY-TRADED WHEREVER POSSIBLE

A Wide Range Of Ethically
Traded World Drums At Excellent Prices
All available to mail order
ALL our instruments are
fairly traded wherever possible, as we endeavour to supply quality, ethical
products at fair prices.
Not only do we consider fair-trade to be an important issue, but we also do
our best to ensure that instrument materials are sustainably sourced -
hence we aim to avoid the use of non-sustainable hardwoods and, of course, all
natural animal-derived materials are strictly bi-products.
Our ethics are important to us, as fair trade should mean fair to the
environment as well as to our producers AND customers.
If you have any questions regarding our ethical policies please do not hesitate
to Contact Us.

'Dragonfly Moon' Drums
Our drums are all high quality,
individually hand-made and ethically traded instruments used primarily for
music, dance and self-expression, but which can also be utilized for 'healing',
'space-clearing', shamanic work and for bringing people together to
celebrate life and living in the
moment.
We primarily trade in DJEMBES
of varying sizes, designs and prices
from Ghana,
Bali & the Ivory Coast but also stock drums
from other varied locations around the world including beautiful ocean drums from
Nepal & Bali,
bodhrans from both Pakistan & Ireland, darbukas from Turkey &
Egypt, talking drums from Ghana & Bali, double-skinned frame drums from
Mexico, single-skinned frame drums & tambours from Bali and Remo buffalo drums from the USA.
DJEMBES...
The djembe is the most
popular West African drum and is now played all over the world as it can produce
an amazing array of sounds created by its shape, skin, wood & tuning.
Traditionally it is made with a wooden shell and a goat skin playing area,
attached with knotted cord to create the tension of the skin.
It is played raised off the floor to allow the sound to emerge fully, with both hands, fingers together, hitting the skin of the drum and
bouncing off it to create the notes. The main notes (played with either or
both hands) are the BASS note played in the centre of the drumhead with the
whole hand to create a
beautifully deep & resonant sound; the TONE note played on the rim with the
fingers which creates a higher sound; and the loud, SLAP note which is played by
pivoting the hand onto the side of the drum and 'slapping' slightly splayed fingers onto the
rim.
Best
quality sustainable wooden djembes - hand-made, traditional African drums:
