Drumming & Singing
Workshops
Scott & Susan run a variety
of exciting & empowering drumming, singing & musical workshops
based on African drumming and self-expression
using drums, percussion &, voice.
Half-day workshops focus
exclusively on the teaching of traditional West African drumming
(African djembes are provided if you need one)
whilst each full-day or weekend musical workshop centres on a different theme
and incorporates
a variety of
tools & techniques
in a relaxed yet energising environment.
Drumming
is an empowering, emotive and uplifting experience
which reconnects us
with the earth upon which we walk and can help us to transcend inhibitions through
true self-expression. The power of drum and voice can raise our energy levels and
inspire us to move more rhythmically through our everyday lives, reminding us of the pulsing of all life.
We ALL have rhythm, we ALL have a pulse and we ALL have a unique voice; these workshops will
help
you to re-discover yours. Drumming and singing is a positive
experience which reminds us of the importance of experiencing each moment of our
lives to the full.

These
experiential workshops aim to bring individuals together to celebrate life and
its many rhythms and
to rediscover and strengthen personal connections with the land.
Using drums, rattles and voice, these workshops encourage you to find and
express your own unique sense of rhythm and enable you to experience something of the inspirational and
'healing' qualities of sound, whether soothing or invigorating!
You do not need any previous experience of either drumming or singing to
be able to participate fully in the friendly, enjoyable and positive tribal
atmosphere that these inspirational, accessible and energising musical workshops create, for drumming is most definitely not
a competitive sport...
So come join the circle of drums!

Full Weekend Musical Workshops:

24th - 25th April 2010:
MUSIC
FOR THE HEART & SOUL
A
Unique and Empowering Weekend Musical Retreat
with Scott Jasper and Susan
Garlick
Held in a beautiful location on the magical ISLE of MAN
Ancient
and universal; powerful and profound, music urges us to celebrate the
inspirational magic of life itself.
During this musical retreat you will learn to play a variety of
tribal instruments from around the world, encouraging you to discover where you
are on your life’s path, overcome inhibition and express yourself fully with
freedom and creativity.
Held
in a beautiful setting with an atmosphere of warmth and enthusiasm, this weekend
provides a unique opportunity to explore the transformational power of music in
connection with the nurturing spirit of both landscape and community. Beginning
with the ‘spirit of the self’ you will reconnect with your centre by harnessing
the haunting sounds of North American flute, the meditative tones of Tibetan
singing bowls and mantras and the powerful magic of frame drumming. This will
in turn open you up to experience the wild power of drum and voice, exploring
the vibrancy of rhythm using African djembes, known also as both the ‘dancing’
and ‘healing’ drum and feeling the profound freedom of singing together from the
heart and soul as we share songs and chants to reconnect us to earth and spirit.
We
will also explore the healing qualities of sound and ancient musical instruments
including a didgeridoo ‘visioning’ and a drum healing circle as well as
reconnecting with the natural music of the landscape as we look outwards to
nature, expressing and celebrating our connections to the wild land and the
elements through music and voice-work, stirring your creativity with a visit to
one of Man’s beautiful beaches.
No
musical experience necessary, simply a willingness to express yourself from the
heart!
The workshop runs from 10.00am-6.00pm on Saturday and
10.00am-5.00pm on Sunday, with all meals & refreshments provided.
(Accommodation
is also available & special diets can be catered for)
A wide
range of fairly traded ethnic musical instruments will be provided
There
will also a pre-workshop FRI EVENING SUPPER & ACOUSTIC CONCERT
during which Scott & Susan will be sharing Inspirational Songs of Earth & Spirit
in a special intimate & acoustic format.
